Today is jampacked, liturgically.  We enter today, 17 December, into the final stretch before Christmas.  At Vespers we start to sing the O Antiphons.  Today is Ember Wednesday.  Today's Mass is also called the "Golden Mass... Missa Aurea" because of the reflection on the moment of the Incarnation and also because in early missals the initial of the Introit was often decorated with gold, it was highly esteemed.
