I recently rediscovered a slim 1950 volume, The Osterley Selection from the Latin Fathers. Its preface praises Caesar, Cicero, Livy, and Virgil, while affirming the worth of Christian writers. The book offers brief patristic texts. I plan to podcast the readings with Latin, English translation, and commentary. Today’s selection is from the fourth-century pilgrim Egeria and her Itinerarium, describing the Holy Thursday night liturgy in Jerusalem.
